Specimen Type/Requirements

Gold top (Serum w/ gel)  - Serum - preferred

Red top (Serum w/out gel) - Serum

Lavender top (EDTA) -  Plasma
Light Green top (Lithium Heparin w/ gel) -  Plasma

 

Samples should be stoppered and upright at all times. 

 

Specimens stored in primary containers (i.e. on cells/gel) are good for 24 hours refrigerated. Specimens must be aliquoted and then are good refrigerated for 7 days.

 

Test is affected by gross hemolysis and gross lipemia.
