Specimen Type/Requirements

Swab nasal passages for mucous secretions. If needed, have patient blow nose on plastic film. Smear secretions on glass slides with swab, making two slides if possible. Allow slides to completely air dry before sending to the laboratory. Do not coverslip and do not allow slides to bond together with specimen in between.
