The following sources are NOT acceptable for Actinomyces culture: swab specimens of superficial abscesses/lesions; wounds, catheter tips, throat or nasopharyngeal swabs, sputum, voided or catheterized urine, vaginal or cervical swabs, feces or rectal swabs, and specimens contaminated with feces (draining fistulas, colostomy, bowel contents, rectal abscesses).
