AKA

Urinalysis, Reflex to Culture,

Urine Culture if Indicated

Specimen Type/Requirements

Collect a midstream urine and submit in an 8 mL yellow-top conical transport tube (no preservative) AND a 3 mL gray-top urine transport tube (with preservative for culture). As an alternative, specimen can be submitted in a sterile screw cap container. Gray-top urine transport tube: 2 mLs
Jungle-top urine transport tube: 6 mLs

Transport Temperature

Transport unpreserved specimens refrigerated if cannot deliver to lab immediately. Transport preserved specimens at room temperature. If delay in transport (>8 hours) transfer specimen for urinalysis to a tube with chlorhexidine preservative (8 mL) jungle-top urine transport tube and send at room temperature.

Performed Test Frequency

Daily as received.
