Specimen Type/Requirements

Non-Gential sources only.

Eye- 

Conjunctiva- Sample both eyes (pre-moistened with sterile saline) by rolling swab over each conjunctiva. Inoculate medium (MTM) at the time of collection. 

Corneal- Obtain swabs described in conjunctiva using sterile spatula scrape ulcers/lesions and in oculate directly onto medium (MTM)

Throat - Sample posterior pharynx tonsils and inflamed areas with eswab. Transport to lab immediately or directly inoculate medium (MTM)

Oral - Remove oral secretions or debris from surface of lesion with a swab and discard. Using eswab vigorously sample lesion acoiding areas of normal tissue. Inoculate directly onto medium (MTM) or transport to lab immediately.
