Collection Instructions:
Superficial Wound - Remove surface exudale by wiping with sterile saline or 70% alcohol. Aspirate if possible or pass swab deep into lesion and firmly sample lesions advancing edge. Tissue biospy sample or needle aspirate is specimen of choice.
Deep Wound - Aspirate abscess wall material with needle and syringe. aseptically transfer all materials into sterile container
IV Catheter - Cleanse skin around site with 70% alcohol. Aseptically remove catheter and clip 5cm distal tip of catheter directly into sterile container.
Tissue - Submit portion of tissue from area on conter in a sterile container. For small samples, add several drops of sterile saline to keep moist.
Vaginal - Wipe away excessive amount of secretion or discharge. Obtain secretions from mucosal membrane of vaginal vault using sterile Eswab
Follow departmental procedures for other sources.
