Specimen Type/Requirements

Gold top (Serum w/gel) tube - Serum (preferred)

Red top (Serum w/out gel) tube - Serum

Light green is not acceptable for the reflex to MMA. 

 

Specimen should be centrifuged and separated within 2 hours of collection.

 

Test may be affected by gross hemolysis, gross icterus and gross lipemia.

This test will reflex to Methylmalonic Acid (BLOD0103) at an additional cost if Vitamin B12 is <300 pg/mL.
