Specimen Type/Requirements

Hospital: Collect a balanced heparin syringe or Green (Lithium Heparin) Tube and send to Respiratory Therapy. Green (Lithium Heparin) microtainer NOT acceptable for testing. 

Outpatient: Collect a Gold (SST Serum) Tube, centrifuge and send in original tube unopened (keep anaerobic). Once spun down, iCa++ is stable for 48 hrs at room temperature. Do not use 3 mL tubes.

Minimum Volume 1.0 mL whole blood or 500 µL serum
